DULUTH — The St. Louis River Alliance and the city are hosting an Estuary Extravaganza on Sept. 28 at Chambers Grove Park at the far western edge of the city along the St. Louis River.

The event will include a ribbon-cutting cerermony for the St. Louis River National Water Trail that was officially designated by the National Park Service in 2020 when COVID-19 restrictions prevented any ceremony.

The free event, set for 5-7 p.m., includes:

There will be a short program at 6 p.m. followed by the ribbon-cutting for the St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail. Attendees are encouraged to launch their kayaks and canoes during the event. Chambers Grove Park is located on the St. Louis River, just before you cross the Highway 23 bridge.

The St. Louis River Estuary is the nation's largest freshwater estuary and Lake Superior's largest tributary. With 11 looped routes for paddlers and boaters of all skill levels, the Water Trail provides access to wild spaces nestled in the Twin Ports urban area.
